Thrive is a national charity whose mission is to research, educate and promote the use and advantages of gardening for people with a disability.

Volunteering at Thrive

Volunteers come to Thrive for many reasons, including a desire to gain further experience or skills, to 'give something back' to the community or to take an interim step towards employment. In 2007 and 2008 volunteers gave over 11,500 hours to Thrive, of which over 9,000 hours were given by individuals and 2,500 hours by corporate volunteers. We are always keen to recruit more help, so why not volunteer at Thrive?

Examples of volunteering opportunities at Thrive:

Working at one of Thrive’s Garden Projects – alongside a therapist, working directly with our clients or simply coming along to garden.

Regular support – At the Thrive Garden Projects, volunteers look after visitors during the weekend, sell plants and help with open days.

Fundraising – over the years volunteers have made a significant contribution to raising funds by organising events.

Administrative support – helping at open days or working in one of our offices.

In Battersea we are running a supported volunteering project. This is aimed at people who would like to volunteer but need extra assistance to be able to contribute. Volunteers, who may have mental health needs, learning difficulties, physical disability health issues or problems integrating with society, visit and work in gardens in London such as the Chelsea Physic.
