Swapping the world of work for wellies is something staff at Reading-based global data management company Veritas know all about.
They are fantastic supporters of Thrive and have been on numerous corporate social responsibility (CSR) volunteering days working with us at our walled gardens in the Berkshire village of Beech Hill.
In the summer of 2016 a number of employees spent two days with Thrive getting stuck into lots of gardening and outdoor jobs, some of which our client gardeners would find too challenging.
Days like these really help us as a charity and the positive feedback we receive reflects just how enjoyable they are.
Veronica Conroy from Veritas, said: "We were made to feel so welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our day at Thrive.
"It was great to work outside with people from the company who we may not see from day to day.
"The nature of the work at Thrive means we can see the progress we’ve made, whether it’s mowing lawns, painting a shed or moving and re-laying paving slabs. There’s a great deal of satisfaction and pride felt at the end of the day!"
Jan Broady, senior horticultural therapist at Thrive, said: "We are lucky to have a good number of corporate groups in which is fantastic, but I would like to give Veritas a special mention as they were truly exceptional and we are so pleased by the quality of their work."
Veritas also had the strimmer’s out to cut back the overgrown hedge in the car park, grouted paving slabs and cleared the orchard.
In December of 2015 and 2016 the team from Veritas turned their hand to making Christmas wreaths that Thrive sold to raise funds.
Ronnie added: "Working in the church which is also the village shop provided a great community atmosphere and it was fantastic to be able to see some of the Thrive produce on sale.
"We are looking forward to coming back to Thrive in 2017."
