1. Can you provide me with a concise overview of your Training Programme?

Yes, for an overview of our latest course programme, please download a copy of our latest Training and Education Prospectus or visit the Courses and Workshops page of our website.

2. Can you help me understand more about the specific content of a course or workshop?

Yes, please contact a member of our team by calling 0118 988 5688 or emailing training@thrive.org.uk and we will be delighted to talk you through the content of our courses.

3. Is the course I am interested in right for me?

If you have any questions about a course, please contact a member of our team on 0118 988 5688 or training@thrive.org.uk. If you are happy to tell us a little bit about your background and your aspirations, we will do our best to suggest a course that is right for you.

4. Do I have to complete an introductory workshop before coming on one of your specialist knowledge courses?

No. For many people, particularly those who are new to social and therapeutic horticulture, our Step into STH workshops provide an excellent introduction to the history, theory and practice of horticultural therapy. However, you do not need to begin your training with an introductory workshop. Some people, especially those with experience in health and social care, will find our specialist knowledge or undergraduate courses to be a more valuable starting point.

5. Which courses can provide access to the Award in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture

Our undergraduate Award in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture is accredited by Coventry University. Participants can gain access the Award by attending either our dedicated Award Access course or any of the two-day courses on our Specialist Knowledge Programme except Gardening Skills for Health and Social Care Professionals.

6. Do you offer any online courses?

No. Currently we do not offer any online courses. However, we are in the process of seeking funding to develop online provision using a platform called Moodle. Online courses will be added to our website as soon as and when they become available.

7. I live outside of the UK, is it still possible for me to attend your courses?

Yes. This year alone we have welcomed people from Australia, Nigeria, the USA and across Europe onto our courses. Thrive have an excellent international reputation and our courses are highly regarded in many parts of the world.

8. Can you help me find accommodation?  

Yes. Although we do not recommend any particular hotels, B&Bs or guesthouses, we can often help you to find accommodation near to our training venues. Please call 0118 988 5688 or email training@thrive.org.uk to find out more  

9. Is there any funding available for me to attend your training programme?

Because Social and Therapeutic Horticulture is an emerging profession, finding funding for training courses can be a challenge. It is often best to begin by searching for bursaries and grants in your locality or region of the UK. However, the following organisations and websites have provided funding for participants of our courses:

And between January and April 2016, we invited applications for the Charles Notcutt Memorial Bursary, which enabled 5 students to complete the Award in STH. While the deadline for applications has now passed, we hope to be able to offer similar opportunities in the future. Click here to find out more.

10. Do you offer any discounts on your courses?

Yes. We offer a two-tiered pricing structure on all of our courses with the exception of Step into STH workshops and undergraduate courses. This allows individuals and members of charitable organisations to access most of our course at significantly reduced prices.

The reason we do not discount undergraduate courses is that the costs are decided in consultation with our higher education partners. Our Step into STH workshops are already offered at a reduced rate to encourage as many people as possible to begin learning about social and therapeutic horticulture.

In addition to this, we offer occasional discounts to promote new courses or on courses that are likely to run with either very small or very high numbers. Details of this can often be found in our bimonthly Training and Education Newsletter or on our website

11. Do you offer any discounts for organisations who are booking more than one place on a course or workshop?

Yes. We can often offer discounts to organisations who would like to book 2 or more places on one of our courses. To find out more, please call 0118 988 5688 or email training@thrive.org.uk

12. I am interested in your undergraduate Award and Diploma, can you tell me more?

13. Do you provide tailored training for my organisation at our own premises?

14. Do you provide a consultancy service?

15. I am looking for evidence and research specifically related to social and therapeutic horticulture. Can you help?

Yes. We have many years' experience of researching the benefits of horticulture for health and well-being, particularly amongst people who are isolated, vulnerable or living with disability. 16. I hear you have a library, can I visit?

Yes. We have a library of resources and current and previous research studies located at our National Office and Trunkwell Garden Project near Reading. The library is free to members of Thrive. 17. Can a member of your education team speak at a conference or symposium I am organising?

Yes. Each year we receive a number of requests for a member of our team to attend conferences and research groups on a number of topics. We try our very best to participate wherever possible.

Because we are a charity, we almost always require our costs to be covered and this can include preparation time and time outside of the office. To find out more, or to make a request, please email training@thrive.org.uk or call 0118 988 5688.

18. I would like to visit your gardens to see what you do or for the purpose of research. Is this possible?   

Our garden projects in London, Birmingham and Gateshead involve areas of garden and parkland that are open to the public. In Battersea Park, for instance, you will see our therapists and clients working in the Herb Garden and the Old English Garden. Our Main Garden in Battersea Park has a plant sales area and is open for visitors.

Our Trunkwell Garden Project is one of the premier examples of therapeutic green space anywhere in the UK and contains our Garden Gallery. Due to the nature of the site and the client groups who access the project, Trunkwell is only open to the public on open days. In a very small number of cases, we have been also able to offer student placements from a day to a month at our garden projects alongside one or more of our courses. Please email training@thrive.org.uk to find out more or to make a request.
