Could you volunteer at Thrive? We are holding a number of taster sessions here at Battersea Park. at the short presentation you will learn about the work we do at Thrive and the volunteer opportunities. After a tour of the gardens you will meet other volunteers where you can learn first-hand about volunteering at Thrive. Please come along and meet us.

Volunteer Gardening Sundays

Once a month (usually the first Sunday) we have a group of volunteers who work in The Old English Garden in Battersea Park, helping Thrive to maintain our gardens. Meet at 10am in The Herb Garden or otherwise come and find us in the Old English Garden where the work will take place. There is no need to commit in advance just turn up for a day of garden maintenance work and bring your family and friends along too.

Open Days - 21 May, 24 September and 2 December
Held in the Main Garden along East Carriage Drive from noon until 4pm, offering the opportunity to purchase seasonal plants, tea and home-made cake, tombola and find out more about Thrive from the team. We also support other organisations who join us to showcase their work.

Wandsworth and Chelsea Fringe Festival 20 -26 May
As part of these vibrant Fringe festivals, Thrive will be presenting art, workshops and events as well as tea and cake at the Main Garden, East Carriage Drive from 10am to 4:30pm during the week and special weekend events noted below.

Wandsworth Fringe

Locals Art Hut will be showcasing local places and local talent, a range of sculptures, prints and paintings inspired by nature, seasons, Thrive gardens and the wider local area. The work is by a group of artists ranging from aspiring to professional, and representing many ages.

Saturday 20 May, 2pm:
Tactile sculptures by Yiorgos Bouteris. Locals Art Hut launches his 2017 Thames inspired collection. Working with reclaimed natural materials in stone, ceramic, copper and wood Yiorgos’ sculptures embody what he visualised on first discovering the raw objects. Drop-in to experience the feel of the materials, and meet the artist at Locals Art Hut until 4:30pm.

Sunday 21 May, 11am:
Meet the illustrator of brand new drawings based on Thrive gardens, Battersea Park and the wider local area. Following his residency at Thrive Battersea Park, Glyn Goodwin will be at Locals Art Hut until 1pm to chat about his work shown. Drop-in.

Sunday 21 May, 2pm:
Learn about art made from found and vintage materials. South west London based sculptor, Sophie Marsham will present a photographic selection of her work since 1993 created from reclaimed objects, demonstrating the creative magic that is possible when working with items that are ordinarily discarded. At Locals Art Hut from 2pm sharp, all ages welcome. She will be in the Main Garden for questions until 4pm. £2 per person or a Sophie Marsham art purchase on or before 21st May.

Tuesday 22 May to Friday May 26, 11:30am, then 2:30pm: Dr Vayu Naidu will be presenting: Stories LOST & FOUND. Come and listen to join in telling stories! See how we can find stories in everything around us and across the world-plants, sun, sky ... and more. Vayu Naidu will share stories with you on: If you wish, bring along a story too!

Wednesday 24 May, noon until 2pm:
Mixed media portrait box workshop incorporating natural materials, with art therapist Charlie Rollo-Walker. Charlie aims to demonstrate that creativity is an accessible tool for everyone to use throughout everyday life, and encourage participants to recognise or alleviate inner criticism of their artistic abilities.

Friday, 26 May 1pm Poetry Reading. Hilaire will be reading her garden and nature themed poems inspired by Thrive gardens and the art at Locals Art Hut. Hilaire was poet-in-residence at Thrive Battersea Park for Open Garden Squares Weekend 2016. Her poems and short stories have been published in several anthologies and various magazines, including Brittle Star, Under the Radar and ARTEMISpoetry. Her novel Hearts on Ice is published by Serpent's Tail.
